This project illustrates fiber arts involved in the process of fleece-to-shawl. Wool sheared from a sheep is hand-carded, or brushed out, hand-spun, woven, and then made into a wearable shawl. When I was a teenager, I competed on the PA Farm Show Fleece-to-Shawl team through my 4-H Club, so my appreciation for fiber arts has grown from there. My goal is for my photos to be comprehensible enough for the viewer to generally understand the steps involved in creating and wearing a shawl. Carding, spinning, and weaving are increasingly dying art forms, so photographing them makes this body of work more meaningful.
